Apple Tree Submarine
Apple Tree Submarine is an ongoing long-term artistic project by the artist Oh-Seok Kwon, unfolding through many different formats and expressions, including drawings, kinetic sculptures, installations, film, photography, objects, and participatory projects that continue to grow and develop over time.
At the center of the work is the image of the submarine, a fantastical vessel carrying an apple tree, moving quietly between nature and urban life, between reality and imagination. The project explores themes of mobility, displacement, transformation, cultural exchange, and our relationship to time and the world around us.
Over the years, Apple Tree Submarine has expanded into different connected projects, including the ATS Gold Project and ATS – Together, each offering new ways for people to engage with the journey of the submarine.
The project is developed in close curatorial and project collaboration with Sofia Sprick Nilsson. While Oh-Seok Kwon remains the creator and artistic force behind the work, Sofia contributes through curatorial development, project management, exhibition planning, and the expansion of the project into participatory and educational formats.
Together, they continue to shape the journey of Apple Tree Submarine through exhibitions, workshops, international collaborations, and new creative platforms under ATS Art Projects.
